I'd like to recommend good materials to read about the Bollinger Bands. Please check out Mr. tymen1 in the BabyPips Forum because he is so fond of Bollinger Bands and often discussed it in his posts. Follow the link given below.

It's difficult to say because I dont know what chart you are looking at. If you look at the recent movement of the pair, you'll notice that the pair is in the midst of a uptrend channel, as the GBP has been experiencing some weakness the past week. If the pair breaks through the channel, that may be a signal to short.
