I usually trade GBP/USD and EUR/JPY simply because their average trading range is more than 200 pips. This gives me a lot of room to play around with regards to volatility.I also like to trade EUR/USD. It is the most liquid of all pairs and it retraces a lot. This gives me a lot of opportunity to jump in on the overall trend.
