Also called "Gilt-Edged Securities", gilts are bonds issued by the UK government which offer the investor a fixed interest rate over a predetermined period. While gilt prices are subject to fluctuation (like exchange rates or stocks), they are seen as one of the safest investments since they offer a guaranteed return on capital.

UK gilt is a bond issued by the UK government. These are usually purchased by the Bank of England during times of quantitative easing.
