Like what Jigglypuff said, it does not matter what kind of trade you take. You can either go long or short. Going long is the act of buying the currency. Of course, when you buy something, it is beneficial for you if it goes higher so you could sell it at a higher price. Conversely, going short is the act of of selling a currency. Here, you profit by covering your position at a lower price.

hey,
let me make it easy for you .
in the for ex market we are using the term long or short for buy or sell ...
i think that you meant to say long term traders or short term for micro,
so the answer will be simple, if you having a small account and you opening a position so you want to go short term , but if you will have a big account and you want to open some small position , so you can go long term with the position .
hope i helped you

You should focus on the general trend of the market rather than focusing only on going long or only going short. Believe it or not, traders can become psychologically biased to buying or selling a currency pair, which can turn out badly if your bias is against the trend.
