Resolved Question
Can I trade without a broker?
I would like to know if anyone can trade forex without a broker. I’ve been practicing a demo account and I think I’m ready to trade forex for real. Do I need to go through a broker?

I think it would be best if you traded with a broker. Without a broker, you would be at a loss with regards to the spread, as it is the brokers that help provide it's customers with the best rates possible. Also, a broker allows you to trade with leverage. Otherwise you would be forced to have a ton of money (millions!) just to be able to trade at interbank rates.

Yes, you must go through a broker -- unless you want to start your own company that requires millions of dollars to operate on trading. Otherwise, all individual traders need a broker so that they can trade forex.

Yes, you could trade without a broker but be ready to get ripped off. Some banks buy and sell foreign currency but the spreads they offer are huge, even on majors. Also, you really need to be a long-term trader to win using those spreads.

Yes. You can buy or sell currencies directly from banks and other institutions. I would recommend, however, that you use a broker in dealing with currencies despite paying additional charges through wider spreads. Why? Because most brokers offer extra services like analysis, chart programs and the like that may prove to be really handy for users. Banks don't really provide these tools and insights.
